THE LAUNCH of "Belmont Hassocks", 28th April 2006
Ray Dunsbier reports:
Nearly sixty Old Belmontians, wives and friends met at St Stephen's Club, Queen Anne’s Gate, London, for the official book launch of "Belmont Hassocks: the Rise and Demise of an English Prep School".
Over an enjoyable buffet lunch, the whole spectrum of Belmont (name badges were a godsend!), from Nassau to Lichfield to Hassocks was able to reminisce, up-date and refresh memories.
Sir Nicholas Barrington (1945-47), former British High Commissioner to Pakistan, in an eloquent and amusing address spoke of his Belmont experiences and complimented Dale Vargas (1947-52) on a most interesting and very well written history of the school - "a tour de force".
Dale Vargas then added some of his own reminiscences and spoke about the background and challenges in putting the book together.
Douglas Butler (1953-60) then gave an excellent presentation of the Belmont website, which now offers an impressive collection of photographs and memorabilia of the school.
Copies of "Belmont Hassocks" may be obtained through Ray Dunsbier, Mulliners Cottage, Institute Road, Marlow, Bucks, SL7 1BN, on submission of a cheque for £20 made out to "Belmont Reunion Account". Order Form.
